5 Perfect Jewelry Options for Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, there’s a big focus on jewelry that represents love and family.  In fact, jewelry can be a great way to commemorate special occasions.

Each piece of jewelry is special in that sense. Jewelry is given to you as a token of commitment and love, accomplishment, or celebration.  If you’re someone whose jewelry is a sentimental reminder of important people and memories in your life, you should also consider wearing a piece that brings your children to mind.

Here are a few fitting ideas to pass on to your significant other or to treat yourself to.

1. Birthstone Rings

Perhaps one of the most popular ways to wear a daily reminder of your little ones is through their birthstones.  This is a particularly good idea for moms of multiple children because it allows you to represent each one separately but together in one beautiful piece of jewelry.

There are several different options if you’d like to go this route.  If your left ring finger holds your wedding ring or engagement ring, use your right hand for the kids.  Try a simple gold or platinum band with the birthstones of each child set inside the band – subtle and simple, but very meaningful.  You can also go a bit more modern and opt for trendy stackable rings.  Get one for each child and put them together for a unique look that’s all your own.

2. Engravings

Sometimes simple is best when it comes to representing your children in jewelry.  A simple medallion pendant, ring or bracelet that’s engraved with the names or initials of your kids might be just right for you.  The best part of this type of jewelry is that it can be easily worn every single day without worry that it won’t match your outfit.  Most jewelry stores offer engraving services and can customize pieces in a font of your choosing.

3. Disc Pendants

Disc pendants are a more trendy way to incorporate your children into a piece of jewelry and always keep close to your heart. Each child has their very own disc that represents them and all the discs can be worn together on a chain. Have your child’s name engraved on the front of the disc and date of birth on the back. Then to make is extra special, add the child’s birthstone for a touch of color. Pendants like these can also be moved to a charm bracelet if you ever get tired of them as a necklace.

4. Children’s Charms

There’s something that’s both timeless and fun about a classic charm bracelet.  You probably wore one when you were a little girl and can still remember the feeling of the little charms jangling on your wrist. Well, it just might be time for a grownup version.

Depending on how many children you have, you can choose a charm or two for each child.  If your daughter is a champion swimmer, get a pretty little fish for her.  And for your son, who loves reading and writing, a tiny book.  The options, of course, are endless and you can continue adding to or swapping out the charms as your children’s interests change.

5. Locket Love

Keeping images or mementos of loved ones locked inside a beautiful piece of jewelry is an age-old tradition that never goes out of style.  The Victorian royal family members made them famous – Elizabeth I is said to have worn a locket ring that contained a portrait of her mother, Anne Boleyn; and Prince Albert gave his wife Queen Victoria a bracelet that had 8 small lockets that each contained a lock of her 8 children’s hair.

Today, the most common locket style is a pendant, but what goes inside is entirely up to you.  If you choose to go with photos of your children, you may want to have them laminated before you place them inside the locket so that you won’t have to worry about them getting wet or damaged.

Though hardly a minute passes in which you don’t think of your kids, it’s nice to have a lovely piece of jewelry that reminds you of them whenever you look at it or touch it.  When you’re away from them, even for just a little while, you might find that a special necklace or ring warms your heart and makes them feel not so far away.
